Condolence: IGS mourns for Dr. Jalal Alamgir

IGS deeply mourns premature demise of Dr. Jalal Alamgir, a Visiting Research Fellow. He drowned at sea on December 3 during a holiday in Thailand. He is survived by his wife, parents, younger brother and lots of well wishers. IGS family sincerely prays for eternal peace of Jalal. May the almighty give necessary strength to his loved ones to bear this heavy loss.

Jalal was Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Massachusetts Boston and Fellow of the South Asia Initiative at Harvard University. Jalal was based at IGS since the beginning of 2011. He was working for his upcoming book on political violence with assistance of IGS junior researchers and writing op-ed in national dailies on governance issues. He was also advising IGS researchers in their ongoing research works for State of Governance (SOG) and State of Cities (SOC) reports. He always had a smiling face and was ever ready to guide the young researchers. His presentation of the initial research findings of his upcoming book generated much admiration and attention at the IGS Conference on ’40 Years of Bangladesh: Retrospect and Future Prospects’.
