Institute of Governance Studies launched “The Judiciary: Policy Note” on 11 August 2010 at JATRI Conference Room, Karwan Bazar, Dhaka. Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Chairman, National Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh was present as the Chief Guest at the launching ceremony. Dr. M. Shah Alam, Member, The Law Commission, Barrister Harun ur Rashid, Former Bangladesh Ambassador to the UN, Geneva and Dr. Shahdeen Malik, Director, School of Law, BRAC University were the Guest Speakers. Vice Chancellor of BRAC University Professor Ainun Nishat chaired the programme. More than 30 journalists from both print and electronic media covered the programme. “The Judiciary: Policy Note” is a part of IGS Policy Note Series on ‘Institutions of Accountability’.

The Institute of Governance Studies (IGS), in collaboration with the BRAC Business School organised a training course on “Project Management for Development Practitioners” from 17-22 July at the JATRI Conference room. The main purpose of the programme was to sensitise and enhance the capacity of mid-level public sector officials, NGO officials and executives from the private sector on project management issues. This six-day programme was designed to provide advanced knowledge on project management and to equip participants with skills necessary to address issues pertinent to Bangladesh. Twelve mid-level government and non-government officials participated in the training course. Dr. Sanaul Mostafa, Dean, BRAC Business School, Mr. Syeedul Haque, Joint Chief, Ministry of Shipping, Dr. Rizwan Khair, Academic Coordinator of IGS and Ms. Fatema Yasmin, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Finance were the lead trainers of the training programme. The programme concluded with a Certificate awarding ceremony on July 22, 2010, handed over by IGS' Director Mr. Manzoor Hasan .

The Institute of Governance Studies (IGS), BRAC University in collaboration with Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of the Government of Bangladesh and UK based the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), designed a comprehensive course on procurement for the government officers of Bangladesh.

IGS signed a contract on 23 May 2010 with Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), UK to offer international procurement courses in Bangladesh. Initially IGS will offer courses for Level 4 and Level 5 Foundation Diploma in Purchasing and Supply. CIPS will also assist IGS to develop a Masters Programme in Procurement, which will be first of its kind in Bangladesh.

The Affiliated Networks for Social Accountability (ANSA), housed within the Institute of Governance Studies, BRAC University organized three Gambhira performances titled ‘Tothyo Jana Harge Odhikar’, to raise awareness on the Right to Information Act, in Dhaka, on Pohela Boishakh, (14 April 2010). ‘Tothyo Jana Hargo Odhikar’ was written, directed and performed by the renowned theatre group, Prachyanat, at three significant locations around Dhaka city.
